Part A
Spiritual Work: Structure & Invoking.

Whether you are practicing Prayer or Magick, you will need a routine Structure for your work, and you will need to experiment with Invoking -- either Elemental Powers and/or Deity.

Structure.

I strongly recommend that you always cast a circle. This will help to contain and focus the energy you raise as well as help you connect with the Divine and feel protected. The ritual lighting of candles for specific intents at the beginning of your work, the recital of familiar chants, prayers, or other spiritual words, the use of set gestures, and the scent of a familiar incense will all lend strength and power to your work and help you achieve an altered state of consciousness more quickly.

Here is an example of what your Prayer or Magick Structure might look like:

Hecate by Swampy
Light Main Altar Candles
Light Incense
Cast a Circle
Invoke Powers/Deity (more on this will follow)
Light Candles for Specific Intent
Chanting
Raise/Focus Energy
Send Out Energy
Ground
Give Thanks
Open Circle
Extinguish Candles & Incense (optional)

Take some time this week to consider and experiment with a structure for your energy work, then write it up for me in detail, including the specific chants and gestures you plan to use.

Invoking.

You may have used Invoking in your work before if you've called the quarters into your circle or if you've asked Deity to be present with your workings and/or to empower your intents. When engaging in the focused spiritual work of Prayer or Magick, I ask you to carefully consider Who or What you plan to Invoke. It is always appropriate to invoke The Great Goddess or The Mother Goddess or to invoke The (Collective) Power of Love, Peace or Healing. But if you plan to invoke more specific Goddesses or Elemental Powers, I ask that they be forces you are already very familiar with.

Here's why. Each Power or Face of the Goddess has her own (very real) characteristics and personality traits -- just as we do. When you call her in to your work, her entire personality (light and dark) can affect the work you do. So it is not recommended to invoke a Goddess you've only read a few sentences about in a book when you are doing serious work. If you'd like to get to know that Goddess, read about her, include her in your devotions, meet her in your meditations, dialog with her, and become familiar with her energy before you ask her to empower your focused work.

How do you invoke a Goddess or a Power? Just call her name and ask her to join you and empower your specific intent -- in whatever language feels right to you -- formal or informal. I usually say something like, Kuan Yin / I invite you in / to guide and empower / my work here to tonight. Be sure to thank her when you are finished.

Take some time this week to consider Who and What you would feel comfortable invoking in your spiritual work. Do some writing about your relationship to and your experience with that Goddess or Power. And perhaps also consider which Goddesses and Powers you'd like to get to know better for future work together.

In addition, begin collecting spells (Magick) or prayers (Prayer) to perform at a future time. Let me know if you need help finding them.

Write up your comments about Structure and Invoking and notes about what you are collecting

Part B

Daily Tarot Practice.
The High Priestess
Continue your daily practice of drawing Motherpeace Tarot cards and exploring the cards through visualization, dialog, and meditation. This week, we will experiment with a different 3-card spread

Past - Present - Future

Wheel of Fortune This spread gives you a view of a situation over time. Lay out the cards side by side, left to right. The first card you draw reflects what was happening in this situation in the past, perhaps pointing to a key element that you may have missed. The second card reflects the situation at present. The third card reflects the future for this situation, if things keep going the way they are going now.

Record the cards you draw for this spread and your experiences with them in your Reading Journal or Personal Journal. Continue looking back over your previous readings once a week. What have you noticed about how the cards are playing out in your life?

Write a paragraph about your experiences.

Part CStrength

Tarot Studies.

In the Motherpeace book, read Chapters 12 - 14. Take notes on The Wheel of Fortune, Strength, and The Hanged One in your Tarot Journal. Please write one or two paragraphs in response to this reading.

Part D

Grandmother Moon.

Read the Moon Tale in the chapter you began last week. Write a brief response .
