Goddess Aine

May the Goddess of Light, Love and Fertility, who brings us the sun’s power and life force and the moon’s mystery, intuition and regeneration, be with you and protect you as you move through the days of your life.

Aine is both a Sun Goddess, a Moon Goddess, a Goddess of love and fertility, a Faerie Queen, a Goddess of Agriculture and Patroness of Crops. She rules the solar and lunar year. She is very versitile and popular Goddess and assumes many roles so she can be called upon for help concerning many situations and needs. She was the Goddess of the people who gave much to them and  received love and worship in return for healing from illnesses, evil, giving abundance, answering prayers concerning love, prosperity, and more.

Aine's role in prayer and rituals

She was thought to give the people of Ireland the gift of grain, as she birthed a sheave of grain on August 1st  (Lammas), so the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday after Lammas are also her sacred days. Traditionally, farmers have and still today practice rites in Aine's honor, hoping for her protection throughout the Wheel of the Year as the Goddess of Agriculture. On Midsummer's Eve (Summer Solstice) they walk through their fields and wave lit torches of straw over the livestock and fields, in the hope that Aine and her sacred fire might grant them an abundant harvest, protection, guardianship and fruitfulness. Aine's most famous day of worship and prayer is the Summer Solstice (Midsummer's Eve). Burning flowers and straw is a way to pray and to honor her.

On the night of the full moon, known as All Heal Night, people were brought to be healed and if they didn’t recover, then Aine would sing to comfort the dying and help them in their passage to the Otherworld. She was believed to regulate the vital spark of life's fire from the sun which flowed through the blood daily keeping us healthy; she is a healer.

As a Goddess of Love Aine is deeply passionate about fertility, sexuality, and aides in finding love or strengthening love for others.  As the dark maiden aspect and Moon Goddess, she defends scorned lovers and seeks revenge on those whom she feels are unsuitable mates. She is a teacher of love as she was friendly with human men. Aine is a protector of women who have been abused, who seek justice and need comfort and she is helpful in spells and rituals involving keeping promises and commitments. She was/is routinely prayed to for fertility, love, abundance, and protection.

Invocation To Aine
Aine Speaks -
I am in love with beauty.
I am in love with youth.
And the hunger for it fills me.
the rays of the sun warm me.
The grass tickles my feet.
Faerie laughter chimes in the distance,
Greeting my soul.
And the time has come to move...
To shift... to change... to take action...
The time has come to be bold and strong.
And fight with insistent pain.
For I am Aine,
Sweet and fickle and proud.
I am the land and the sun that warms her.
I am love... desire... fear... anger.
I am emotion.
Feel me now.

Prayer to Aine:

Aine, Goddess of Love, Fairy Queen,

As day passes into night and night passes into day,

Hear my prayer.

Give me the courage to stay true to my heart

To birth that which I am Called to do

Help me to know my Gift

And share it with the World.

In this I pray,

Thank you, Aine!

Full Moon Irish/ Celtic Love Spell

This Full Moon Irish/Celtic Love Spell can be performed on Friday or Saturday, but it will work for the current full moon only. This love spell can strengthen existing love, turn friendship into love, or attract a new or reluctant lover. This spell will be successful only if the love you request is pure on your part and is beneficial for you.

You will need:

   A clean bowl

A bottle of water (any brand is okay)

   A flashlight

Corn meal, or anything made of corn (a corn muffin, kernals of fresh corn, corn pollen, etc.)

   An envelope

   Tape or safety pins

A picture of your beloved, or something small he or she has owned or touched.

You must perform the spell after sunset, when the full moon is in the sky. You can do this spell in any place at all, such as your own back yard or a parking lot. If the sky is overcast, the spell will be weakened, but it is worth performing anyway. If the weather is rainy, and particularly if there is lightning in the sky, the spell will not work, so don’t bother with it.

Before leaving home, put the picture or the object belonging to your beloved into the envelope, and put the envelope over your heart. Secure it in place by gently taping it to your body, or by pinning it to your shirt over your heart. Make sure it is held in place firmly enough that it will not come off as you walk out into the night.

Stand with the bowl and the bottle of water at your feet. The flashlight should be in your pocket. Holding the cornmeal (or other corn product) in your left hand at arm’s length from your body, turn slowly to your left making a complete circle, scattering the cornmeal in a circle around you. The circle need not be perfect, and if there are gaps, or if you run out of cornmeal before you complete the circle, that’s okay.

Pick up the bowl and the bottle of water. Pour some water into the bowl, and hold the bowl in both hands in such a way that you can see the reflection of the full moon in the water, or so that you can see in the water the light from the full moon hidden behind the clouds.

As you gaze at the moon’s reflection in the water, focus your mind on your beloved. Visualize the two of you happily together.

Say the following:

“Goddess Aine, moon goddess of the Irish Celts, my love is pure for __________ [say the name of the beloved here, or, if you don’t know the name; describe the person. Therefore, Aine, use your power to grant me the pureness and goodness of this love.”

The water has now taken on magical qualities from the power of Aine and of the moon. Drink some, but not all, of this magic water—as much as you wish to drink, as long as you don’t drink it all. As you drink, feel the power of the moon goddess flowing into your body, into your heart, and into your beloved’s heart through the object you have placed over your own heart.

Now hold the bowl in your dominant hand (the one you write with) so that you can again see the moon’s reflection. With your other hand, shine the flashlight into the sky in the direction of the moon. This will get Aine’s attention.

Say a second time, as you focus your thoughts on your beloved:

“Goddess Aine , Moon Goddess of the Irish Celts, my love is pure for __________ [say the name of the beloved here, or, if you don’t know the name; describe the person. Therefore, Aine, use your power to grant me the pureness and goodness of this love.”

Stand for a moment, gazing directly at the moon, contemplating your beloved and the purity of your love.

Finish by saying, “Thanks and praises be to you, gracious Goddess Aine.”

Pour the remaining water from the bowl onto the ground. Keeping the flashlight on, return home. Take the picture or object from over your heart and put it in a safe place in your home. Once you have done this, turn out the flashlight.

If the love is indeed pure and good, Aine will grant your wish. If the wish is not granted, either your feelings are not sufficiently pure, or the beloved is not good for you. In either case, if the wish is not granted, you should seriously consider moving on, away from this loved one, before the next full moon.

Sun Goddess Meditation

1. When rising in the morning, look to the Sun and recite the following prayer to her:

"Hail to you, O Sun of the seasons,
As you traverse the lofty skies,
Your way is strong on the wings of the heavens,
You are the Glorious Mother of the stars.
You have your lying down in the destructive ocean,
Without harming, without fear,
You rise on the serene wave crest,
As a queen, a woman in bloom."

Greet the Sun each morning with this prayer and let Her rays shine down on your head, blessing you and making you healthy and vigorous (and remember to have your head uncovered).

While reciting this prayer, remember that without the Sun, there would be no life on this planet. The Sun's energy is the source of energy for all things. Feel the power of this energy as it blesses you and warms you.

(2) Solar Body of Light

Breath deeply and slowly as the Sun's rays warm you. Draw this energy down into your heart (the area of the Middle Cauldron or the "Cauldron of Vocation/Motion"). With three or nine cycles of breath, visualise a ball of solar energy form in the area of the Middle Cauldron. Feel this energy warm you from within. Next, with three or nine cycles of breath, circulate some of this energy around your body. Let this energy fill your body until you are able to visualise yourself as a body of light with light emanating from the solar ball in your Middle Cauldron.

(3) Assuming Aine as a Solar Godform

Visualise Aine, the Sun, standing in front of you. See her glowing round face, forever young and unblemished. See her long golden-red hair flow around her head like rays of energy. She is dressed in a long multicoloured robe with golden embroidery. Look into her emerald eyes that sparkle with gold.

Visualise her stepping forward toward you and continue looking into her eyes. Let her step into your body, turn around with your body, and then look out through your own eyes.

While keeping hold of your own consciousness and uniqueness (actually, this is very easy to do -- letting go and becoming one with the godform you have taken on is a lot harder for most people!), feel the additional power that is with you in this particular godform. Quiet your mind by quieting your breath. Listen to what Aine has to say to you. Feel her energy embodied within you.

Visualise her step forward and out of your body. See her turn and look at you. Close by giving the following sign:

Cup your right hand, palm facing up, held at the level of your Middle Cauldron (at your heart) and place your left hand under your right, cupping the right hand with the left.

Now let the visualisation of Aine fade.
