Luna

The Moon Goddess

 By Dragon

Luna has been recognized since time began. She watches over us as we dream. Luna is the name given her by the Romans.  She has many names, some of which are Selene, Celene, Phoebe, Menet, Hekate, Diana, and Ishtar. There are many more. Some have been forgotten…..or were never known to humans….

Her sacred symbol is the moon….full or crescent. Her animals are the Raven, the Owl, and the White Ram.

Luna’s favorite colors include black, blue, and silver.  Monday is the day to work her most powerful magick.  Her worship should be after dark, when her Symbol the Moon can be seen.  She is the most powerful directly after the Full Moon.

Luna’s Ritual

Moon rituals may be done at anytime in her cycle.  Her powers change as she changes…..

Waxing – attraction, growing

Full – fertility, abundance

Waning – reducing, banishing

Dark – meditation, rest, renewal

For this ritual we will use the Waning Moon.

Supplies:
White or silver candle
Black candle
Ribbon
Scissors
Matches

This ritual can be used for many things. To release a relationship that is no longer healthy, to banish gossip, to let go of unwanted habits, etc.

Cast a circle (if you wish)

“Bless” the scissors in the moon light.  Hold the white or silver candle in your hands.  “Bathe” it in the moon light while thinking of Luna’s great power.  Place it on you right.  Hold the black candle in our hands.   Send to it thoughts of the things that you wish to banish/be rid of.  Place it on your left.

Tie the ribbon around the white/silver candle first – then the black.  Light the candles while saying these words or those of your choosing…

“Lady Luna, please be witness to my release of __________, and empower me to banish it from my life.  With harm to none, in your Name, so be it.”

As you speak, cut the ribbon between the candles with your scissors. Stay as long as you are able. Try to clear your mind.  Open the circle (if you cast one). Ground.

If possible, let both candles burn out.  If not extinguish them.  Bury the remains of the black candle and the ribbon where it won’t be disturbed.  Light the white/silver candle whenever you need an extra boost.

 Slideshow

All pictures in the slide show were taken by me with the exception of the “blue tree”. That was taken by my oldest son. It is used with his permission.

The cats are Luna (Black – maiden), Rajaigh (Black and white – mother), and Samantha (Siamese – Crone). The pond and Goose are in my yard, as is the tree/birdbath (it’s a memorial to my mother).

These things/beings all speak to me of the moon. Pictures of the moon were taken over the course of a month from right outside my back door.  When I would see Her I would grab the camera and head outside……it was a wonderful experience!
