. Kuan Yin
Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Compassion, is worshipped and revered for her wisdom
and love. Though she is mainly associated with the female plight, she hears
and helps all genders and all creatures. Her name means “regarded of sounds’,
meaning that she hears the cries of the world. Many people pray to her for
help in childbirth, for healing and blessing of their families, especially
those with children, as well as for help in travels, and relieving suffering.
Accompanying their prayers, worshippers leave offerings of oranges and spices
in her honor. For many, Kuan Yin is their guide to enlightenment.
Her feast days mainly take place in February. She is celebrated on February
9th during the Singapore New Year, on February 19th for her birthday, and
on February 21st during the Lantern festival in China and Taiwan. She is
also celebrated on the 19th day of the 11th moon in China. She has been worshipped
for over a thousand years, a testament to her power and popularity.
Kuan Yin is associated with compassion, children, magic, health, fertility
and kindness. She is often represented with multiple arms, riding a dolphin,
sitting on a lotus leaf, and being accompanied by a rainbow. All of these
symbols represent her unconditional love and compassion for the world. Kuan
Yin fills the void that patriarchal conditions have left in the world. She
offers hope for a better world.
Kuan Yin Compassion Journey
-By Morella-
You may wish to light candles in all the colors of the rainbow for
this meditation.
Kuan Yin is the ultimate guide to helping you live a life of compassion.
Get into a comfortable position, close your eyes in meditation and allow
her to join you on this journey to open up to a more compassionate life.
Leave this world and let your mind take you to wherever Kuan Yin may be.
She will take you with her as she hears and answers the prayers of the world.
As you journey with Kuan Yin, you will meet with a number of individuals.
Allow her to guide you wherever she wishes to take you and to meet who she
wants you to meet. You may know some of them, or you may only meet strangers.
But with everyone lies a lesson of compassion. As you interact with them,
listen to the advice Kuan Yin has to give you, and pay attention to the way
she interacts with them. Why did she take you to these certain people? What
does she have to teach you? Allow yourself to be filled with love and compassion
for everyone you meet. When your journey comes to an end, thank Kuan Yin
for her guidance and come back to the present. Incorporate her lessons into
your waking life.
