Hvashi
Choctaw
Moon Goddess
Hvashi is the Choctaw People's Moon
Mother Goddess. Appearing from nowhere and without a Mother or Sistar
to trace
her through Matrilineal lines as the people did; she came to the people
as a
miracle and shared her wisdom teachings with them. She became the first
wife
and offered the Art of Marriage to the people, however her husband was
not a
Man but the Father Sun itself; the primary God of the Sun worshipping
clan.
Hashtali, the Sun God, was her true love and consort and so it was that
she was
observed to have Union with him together as One each dark of the Moon,
when her
light had disappeared. Together Father
Sun and Mother Moon gave birth to OhoYOCHISBA, the Corn Goddess. It is
said
that this Corn Maiden long ago, was found roaming the lands of the
Choctaw
people, she was disguised as an old woman all alone. As in a fairytale;
the old
hag without family or friends was shunned by the people. It was two
brothers
who were orphaned and also impoverished
and alone who came to her rescue and shared their small meal of hawk
meat and
offered her their poor shelter from the rain. The next day this Corn
Maiden
revealed her true identity as a beautiful woman all dressed in pure
white
shining with the light of the Sun ... she brought then as a gift the
first Corn
seeds and gave them to the brothers and taught them how to sow and how
to reap.
Corn became the Choctaw people's main staple of food from then
on.
Hvashi rode across the night time sky
on her giant Owl in a constant pursuit of her beloved the Sun. She
appeared to
the Choctaw from the Heavens riding down on her beloved Owl without a
sound or
trace from whence she came. She brought the Choctaw Nation many gifts
of song,
dance, and prayer. She was the Mother of Stars and gifted with her
Divine
Groom, The Father Sun... Fire to the people of the Earth. Fire was a
great
blessing of warmth, light, and a way to cook food. Hvashi Seeded
Transformation, Evolution, and Wisdom. Hvashi is the Mother of order
from chaos
and works her craft through the medicine of Love.
Hvashi is needed again in this
Day...May we lift our
hearts and voices to invoke her Saving Grace
