Sister Regina Kiel, a Member of the Sisters of Mercy
Sister Regina (Gigi) was born September 10, 1944 in Johnstown, PA . She was a graduate of Portage Area High School and received a degree in Elementary Education from Misericordia University, a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts as well as a Masters Degree at Indiana University of PA in Fine Arts and Jewelry.
Sister Regina entered the Sisters of Mercy in Dallas, PA on September 8, 1962 and professed her vows on August 16, 1965 as Sister Marie Adele. Her early ministry included teaching at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament School in Bayside, NY, St. Columba’s school in Johnstown, PA and St. Patrick’s school in Newry, PA. After several years of teaching Sister Regina’s creative abilities were well recognized. In 1978, she opened and managed a private art studio at Mercy Center, Dallas, PA known as “Studio 1”.
In her studio, Sister Regina carved images using the lost wax process and created customized jewelry by setting precious and semi-precious stones. Her sculptural projects consisted of wood, bronze, brass, gold and silver. A special part of her ministry was sharing retreat time with engaged couples who designed their wedding bands based on the spirituality they shared. Regina truly enjoyed sharing her unique talents with all whom she met.
Sister Regina leaves a legacy of her art in pieces of fine jewelry, rings, pendants, and her prized creation, a five foot sculpture, entitled “Mercy Alive” which is on display at Mercy Center, Dallas, PA.
As her health declined in recent years, Sister Regina became a member of the prayer and presence ministry at Mercy Center.

Sister Regina is a Saintly Muse Goddess in my eyes.
She radiated love and compassion, she fulfilled a motherly role model to many. From the first time I met her, we shared both shared a special connection to one other,I’m eternally grateful for her.
I respect her deeply for her dedication to her faith, beliefs and family. How she lived her life was an example of the Divine Mother Mary, a magical and sacred feminine energy. She helped me to go deeper within my spirituality and always offered helpful support and advice.
Her art alway will serve as a reminder to push to do my best, in all things, to keep strengthening my talents to create art ,to be loving ,kind and to be of service to others in need.
When I think of Sister and the time we had together I’m so happy and blessed to know her, and so very proud of her.
She truly is an inspiration to all that knew her and has impacted my life in the most beautiful way. Im truly blessed and grateful for knowing and working with Sister Regina.
I dedicate this page to honor and remember dear Sister Regina Kiel who was an amazingly strong, kind, talented wise woman.
