Feng-Pho-Pho
Chinese Goddess of Wind

The history of China, as we understand it today, reaches back into antiquity of 1500 B.C.E. The earliest civilizations of China depicted of tribal people whose mythologies had been absorbed into newer developing religions. It is from the earliest period that most of the great myths of China derive.

In Chinese Myth, Feng-Pho-Pho is the Goddess of Wind. Her name, literally, means “Madam Wind”. Feng-Pho-Pho is symbolized as an old, wrinkled woman, clearly portraying the Crone aspect of the Goddess, and She is represented as sitting on a tiger, riding on a path made of clouds. Her myth states that on quiet days She places the winds back in the bag She carries over Her shoulder

Unfortunately, information about this beautiful Crone Goddess is scarce. Nevertheless, it is most interesting that She is portrayed as riding on a tiger. The tiger in Chinese mythology is a sacred animal. It represents courage and bravery and is also a symbol of the autumnal season, thus closely associated with the Crone stage of life.

The significance of associations between the Goddess Feng-Pho-Pho and  the symbol of the Chinese tiger may suggest that this Goddess is by far greater than what the little written information available on Her would suggest.

THE VISION OF FENG-PHO-PHO
By Freya

MY DEAR CHILDREN NEVER FORGET;
IT IS THE AIR YOU BREATHE THAT SUSTAINS YOU.
AS YOU TASTE THE SWEETNESS OF EACH SEASON
YOU BREATHE SWEET AIR
AND AS YOU BREATHE YOU WILL REMEMBER ME.
LIFE IS COURAGE. LIFE IS STRENGTH
CARRIED THROUGH THE WIND
I CARRY LIFE AWAY ON MY SHOULDER
TO ONLY GIVE IT GENTLY BACK TO YOU
IT IS THROUGH THE WIND THAT YOU WILL REMEMBER ME.
