 The Mother of Compassion
She Who Hears the Cries of the World

The legend of Kuan Yin says that she was born a noble birth but did not wish to marry, unlike her siblings.  At puberty she began living her life in a convent much to the disappointment and disparagement of her father.  He thought if he would indulge her that she would become tired of the hard life in the convent and return to him ready to marry.  She did not.  Princess Miao Shan (Wondrously Kind One) was her earthly name.  She continued with her service and instead of a mortal death she achieved enlightenment and became a Buddhist Bodhisattva.  When she reached the Gates of Nirvana she heard someone cry from earth and it was then she vowed not enter Nirvana but return to earth where she would remain until there was no more suffering.  She is accompanied by Lung Nu the Dragon Maiden.  Kuan Yin is a part of all aspects of Buddhism and by far the most loved deity in the East.  She is now gaining popularity in the Far West as many begin to remember her.  She answers all who call her name.

Ritual Meditation

Raising the Kundalini to the Lotus in the Heart

Materials:  Amber oil for self blessing, Purple Candles, Quiet Space
This meditation is best done while seated.  Cleanse your space, turn off all the electronic devices, do a self blessing, light your candles, and once you are comfortably seated surround yourself with protective white light.

Begin by reaching a state of relaxation by your favorite method.  Once you are relaxed imagine a beautiful Purple Lotus in your Heart Chakra.  Then envision a crystal stem that goes from the Purple Lotus to the Base Chakra.  Now see the life force--the violet-purple energy being pulled up to the lotus through the crystal stem.  (How cut flowers in a vase draw up colored water to the flower).  Once the energy reaches the Purple Lotus hold that image as long as possible.  As you become better at this meditation move the Purple Lotus to the Crown Chakra and try to conscious hold this energy all day.  You will find out your posture and your breathing greatly improve as well as many other benefits.  This Kundalini Rising Exercise is much more gentle than other Kundalini activations because you are using energy from the 7th Ray and not the Red energy from the 1st Ray.  You may feel a little dizzy the first time that you do it.  The Purple Lotus will actually regulate the rising of the energy.

The Purple Lotus of Kuan Yin

Original art by Reverend Dr. Melissa Sue Jones

I painted this picture using Adobe Illustrator CS and Adobe Photoshop 7.0 (by mouse).  Digital art has been a recent passion of mine and my favorite flower is the Lotus.  I have done other paintings of the Lotus flower using different mediums and in many colors, each time invoking the healing powers of the Lotus as I painted it.  This time I not only invoked the healing power of the Lotus but the healing and compassion of Kuan Yin, and the Violet Flame.  As I sat and stared at a picture of the Violet Flame and a picture of the Lotus I saw how they would combine nicely-their energies and forms.  During my research, shortly after that revelation, I found that there was a Purple Lotus of Kuan Yin.  May this painting imbue those healing powers in you.
